At the pregame ceremony on our 20th reunion weekend, Paul Demarie presented Skip Rogers' parents with a framed jersey. The Rogers were deeply touched by this expression, and by the fact that they were included in our reunion activities. Below is the letter written by Paul which was read at the football game.

The Class of 1986 would like to honor, Skip Rogers, by presenting his parents, Phyllis and Glenn Rogers, a framed jersey sporting Skip's Barbe jersey number 20.

Skip, a graduate of Barbe's class of 1986 was a scholar athlete and captain of the football team.

He lost his life while serving his country in September 1995.

The football team presents the Skip Rogers award annually to a senior football player who exhibits Skip's characteristics on and off the field.

Under the jersey, the inscription reads, "Our Hero" and a quote from President Abraham Lincoln: "And in the end it's not the years in your life that count. It is the life in your years."

Presenting the jersey tonight are Head coach Jimmy Shaver, and class of 1986 members: Steven Richard, Stephanie Bogle Burkhalter, Allison Porter, and Paul Demarie.

In life's journey there is a person who impacts everyone. Tonight we honor that person.
